Training
The club trains twice a week at Aldershot plastic slope. Rob Atkin leads a team of dedicated coaches who oversee the training across a number of groups. Individual skiers graduate through the groups based on performance and ability.
The training regime varies through the year. At the end of the summer race season, training focuses on core skiing skills for all racers; this is the foundation work. After Christmas the emphasis changes and skiers work on drills and excercises aimed at improving their performance through poles building up to the start of the summer race season.
Throughout the year the club runs a monthly race during one of the Sunday training sessions giving everyone an opportunity to gauge their progress and performance.
Sunday mornings from 8:00am to 9:45am
This is the main training session of the week and all club members are encouraged to attend these sessions regularly. During the summer race season some members of the coaching staff will be on hand to run the training sessions even when these conflict with LSERSA, SRSA or CLub National events.
Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm to 7:15pm
This mid week session is a very popular. During the winter months it is conducted under floodlights.
Important!
Anybody attending trainng sessions should ensure that they:
- wear a suitable helmet at all times
- wear gloves whilst skiing
- wear suitable clothing, i.e. long sleaves and no shorts
- bring a waterproof
- bring a water bottle
Skis, boots, sticks and helmets can all be hired from Alpine Snowsports at the slope if necessary.
