ASRC Transport & Attendance Policy – Further Guidance

As part of our commitment to Safeguarding the welfare of children, young people and adults who engage in all Snowsports activities, we want to share some guidelines regarding giving lifts to other people’s children and young people to ski races, and looking after them. This guidance applies for training and races at our own and other slopes.

The races we attend are fun, social occasions but they can be long distances from home and illness & injuries can and do arise. This guidance applies to all children and young people under the age of 18.

If you are a parent who is giving parental responsibility to another adult or family for your child, you should:

  • Ensure you provide full contact details, and you are contactable throughout the race weekend to the parent taking on responsibility. If not (for example you will be on a flight yourself) please provide alternative emergency contact details.

  • Understand that if illness or injury were to arise you may need to travel to the ski race location at short notice.

  • Ensure your child / young person is aware of these emergency arrangements and that they are happy to travel with another family. If it is their first race on dry-slope or they are stepping up to a new category (e.g. first club national or first GBR) then they may be nervous and be better waiting for a race when they can be supported by their own parent(s).

If you are a parent accepting responsibility for a child or young person, you should:

  • Ensure that you have full contact details for the parents of that child.

  • Understand that you would need to support that child with any arising illness or injury, until their own parent(s) / other emergency contacts are able to travel to the ski race location and take over responsibility.
